Cooling Towers

Damage: Global warming has been caused in part by the CO2 emitted by fossil fuels. This image shows smoke billowing out of a power station.
While the caption is technically true (sort of), in that on the left side are two tall smaller-diameter stacks with smoke exiting the tops (hardly “billowing”). The remaining 90% of the picture shows cooling towers with water vapor leaving the top. So, in my humble opinion, the caption is very misleading.

Do you know what cooling towers are??? Can you tell the difference between smokestacks and cooling towers, look close, the picture contains both…

One Response to Cooling Towers

  1. Cooling towers are heat removal devices used to transfer process waste heat to the atmosphere. Cooling towers may either use the evaporation of water to remove process heat and cool the working fluid to near the wet-bulb air temperature or, in the case of closed circuit dry cooling towers, rely solely on air to cool the working fluid to near the dry-bulb air temperature.
