If ‘Assault Weapons’ Are Bad…Why Does DHS Want to Buy 7,000 of Them for ‘Personal Defense’?

And why does DHS need weapons, aren’t there enough armed agencies already that they could call on.

The Department of Homeland Security is seeking to acquire 7,000 5.56x45mm NATO “personal defense weapons” (PDW) — also known as “assault weapons” when owned by civilians. The solicitation, originally posted on June 7, 2012, comes to light as the Obama administration is calling for a ban on semi-automatic rifles and high capacity magazines.

Citing a General Service Administration (GSA) request for proposal (RFP), Steve McGough of RadioViceOnline.com reports that DHS is asking for the 7,000 “select-fire” firearms because they are “suitable for personal defense use in close quarters.” The term select-fire means the weapon can be both semi-automatic and automatic. Civilians are prohibited from obtaining these kinds of weapons

Days after the head of the General Services Administration resigned amid reports of lavish spending at a Las Vegas training conference, purported video of the winning skit from a conference competition has been released.

Agency head Martha Johnson stepped down Monday after it was revealed the conference — which featured a clown and a mind reader — cost American taxpayers approximately $835,000.

The video, posted to YouTube by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, features federal workers joking about never coming under inspector general investigation and on spending their operations funding “all on fun.” (And yes, the whiteboard with the to-do list does just have one objective: “Lunch.”)

Why is everyone so upset? It’s only taxpayers’ hard earned money. I mean, if the Obamas can take date night in New York City . . . And he can use the taxpayer’s 747 like it’s his daily tricycle….

The chief of the General Services Administration is resigning and two of her top deputies have been fired amid reports of excessive spending at a training conference at a luxury hotel that featured a mindreader, a clown and a comedian . . .

The resignations come as the agency’s inspector general prepares to release a scathing report on the training conference, held at a luxury hotel outside Las Vegas in October 2010.

Organizers spent $835,000 on the event, which was attended by 300 employees. The expenses included $147,000 in airfare and lodging at the hotel for six planning trips by a team of organizers. Among the other expenses were $3,200 for a mind reader; $6,300 on commemorative coin set displayed in velvet boxes and $75,000 on a training exercise to build a bicycle.
