Costco to Remove Electric Car Chargers Because Nobody’s Using Them

From the New York Times:

Costco, the membership warehouse-club chain, was an early leader in offering electric-vehicle charging to its customers, setting an example followed by other retailers, including Best Buy and Walgreen. By 2006, Costco had installed 90 chargers at 64 stores, mostly in California but also some in Arizona, New York and Georgia. Even after General Motors crushed its EV1 battery cars, the Costco chargers stayed in place.

Yet just as plug-in cars like the Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Volt enter the market, Costco is reversing course and pulling its chargers out of the ground, explaining that customers do not use them.

When a Costco manager in California was informed that there was a state-funded program that would allow them to upgrade the chargers at no cost to his company, he had a good point:

“Why should we have anybody spend money on a program that nobody’s thought through?” he said.

Do you understand how the eco-nuts work? Why would anybody buy a 50 mile car, cor anything except the golf course.

For every 100 pounds of weight removed from a 3500 pound base, the the death rate goes up by about 5%. A good enough reason to forget these dumb electric vehicles.

When you see Al Gore driving down the freeway in one of these stupid cars, then I will laugh.

Stickers For Thee, Not Me: U.S. Transportation Secretary Rolls Up In Big SUV To Unveil New Fuel Economy Stickers

May 25, 2011

SUVs for me — For you, suicide clown cars.

The optics looks bad to everyone but the lamestream, who can’t see the obvious.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood unveiled new fuel-economy window stickers for cars and trucks, saying “we’re not just sitting around waiting for high gasoline prices to come down.” His ride of choice to the unveiling: This 12-mpg Chevy Suburban SUV.

Say could you answer a question: Why is the US trying to be energy independent, when according the the US Government, the USA has more fossil fuel than any other country in the world?

Suicide Clown Cars Come With Don’t Buy Rating for Road Use

May 20, 2010

It’s the car stuck between the two trucks… Are they going to put the whole thing in the ambulance and let the hospital sort it out?

In testing, the dummies all die — As anyone with the slightest notion of a functioning brain would know by looking at them — IIHS condemns use of mini trucks and low-speed vehicles on public roads — More here:

Locally for more fun and smaller pickups, they even come in speeds that can exceed 70 MPH. Of joy, I bet the crash in one of those from 70 MPH would be thrilling.

EPA Releases New Fuel economy Rules: Rules to Cost Consumers Dearly

April 2, 2010

There is absolutely no scientific justification for this and, indeed, many observers believe the EPA lacks the legal authority regarding its stance on CO2. There is NO need to limit greenhouse gas emissions because there is NO “global warming” Traceable to greenhouse gases or anything else for that matter. According to Phil Jones of the EAU/CRU there has been no statistically significant global warming in the 20th century, and none in the last fifteen years. And this is the UN’s top guy on the fraud.

Keep in mind, the V-6 Honda Accord gets an EPA mileage of 22 city 31 highway. And lookey here, the mythical unicorn of global warming is included, the greenhouse gas regulation — That I might add Congress has refused to pass, so we do it by fiat.

The new rules are estimated to cost consumers $50 billion dollars over the same time frame 2012-2016. Yes America you will pay for this crap science.

In response to the new model year 2012-16 automobile and light-truck fuel economy mandates, Ed Tonkin, chairman of the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) released the following statement:

“These new rules are the most expensive fuel economy mandates in history. In part, this is a result of three different fuel economy standards set by three different agencies (U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board) under three different sets of rules. This is in direct contradiction to the one national fuel economy standard established by Congress in 2007.

“America’s new car and truck dealers support higher fuel economy standards, but recognize that for most Americans a car or truck is a necessity, not a luxury. Under these new mandates, the price of new cars and light trucks will rise significantly, meaning fewer Americans will be able to buy the new vehicles of their choice.

“With tight family budgets and a shaky job outlook, consumers want to maximize their transportation dollars, not pay more for redundant rules and an unnecessary bureaucracy.

“Also troubling, EPA’s rule allows for lower standards for some automakers, creating an uneven playing field for some dealers selling makes that are fully regulated. These loopholes will reduce fuel savings, and needlessly distort the fragile auto market, further hurting consumers.”

Lower standard for some manufacturers? Hmm, like government motors and cries-a-lot? And how would that pass Constitutional muster? Oops forgot, two-bit tin pot Obama zomibies don’t need no Constitution.

The WSJ ads:

The Obama administration finalized new rules for automobiles Thursday designed to drastically cut gasoline consumption and greenhouse-gas emissions. But the rules will carry significant costs for car companies and consumers, raising the average price of a new car by nearly $1,000 by the middle of the decade, according to government estimates.

In setting stringent new targets for auto fuel-economy and greenhouse-gas emissions, the White House aims to have all new cars on U.S. roads average 35.5 miles per gallon by 2016, up from a current 26.4 mpg. The new rules accelerate a transition that Congress mandated two and a half years ago.

The new rainbow powered unicorn engined cars should be available by 3016, Obama said.

Coming Soon: The Auto-Purchase Mandate?

As threatened, the new CAFE standards have arrived, with the EPA muscling in on territory reserved by statute to the Transportation Department. As Marlo Lewis and I have noted repeatedly, this is an unconstitutional step on a road to economic devastation.

However, in the light of recent events, this quote in particular caught my eye:

Gloria Bergquist, vice president at the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, said . . . “We have a hill to climb, and it’s steep, so we will need consumers to buy our fuel-efficient technologies in large numbers to meet this new national standard.”

Even with very high gas prices, Americans have been unwilling to buy fuel-efficient vehicles in the same numbers as Europeans, because they rightly regard them as less safe.

So you willing to die for the planet and Obammunism?

Honesty Is Best Policy

June 1, 2009

So up front, did anyone NOT know that the outrageous demands for unreasonable work rules, pay scales and benefits from the UAW were not sustainable? The day of reckoning has come.

More On The New Suicide Clown Cars

May 22, 2009

You think this is a joke?

They can build Vogas, but how do you convince people to work and buy Volgas. The Soviet Union proved, you can’t. They ended up giving the Volags away to politburo members, who sold them for scrap, as they didn’t run well or last long.

Why work, when the money is free.

UPDATE: Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson has one of the funniest car reviews of all time. Right here.

Suicide Clown Cars

May 20, 2009

f=ma, can’t change physics. Watch to the end and see what the real problem is, the passengers will not survive the crash, even if the cars might. Something ‘Niagara falls jumpers’ learned long ago.

In the video, notice the near instability of the short wheelbase, narrow tract, the poor little car could spin out of control at anytime. Can you see Obama and Michelle driving their smart car?
