John Lott On Guns …

December 31, 2012

In case you didn’t know John Lott has done , more research on this that any other people. And yes he knows WDC bans high capacity magazines, even if David Gregory Doesn’t. Shouldn’t you be going to jial David?

Don Kates notes: “it turns out that Century 16 Theaters no-gun policy also applies to its own security personnel, including the off-duty policy officer on the premises.”

So tell me what is the purpose of an Off-Duty police officer on the premise? Comfort for the sheeple???

On Fox News at 5:34 PM EDT, the Aurora police chief said that the killer had been receiving “a high volume of deliveries at work and home over the past four months”.

Some important points, the left wing media forgot to tell you about.

John Lott On Aurora Colorado Theater Shooting:

4 months of planning make it very difficult to stop this type of attack.
Gun-free zone yet again.

10 minutes between when attack starts and when police are able to arrive at the crime scene. Attack was already over when police arrived.

60 explosive devices in his apartment (30 homemade grenades) — what would this guy have been able to do without any guns.

Slightly longer discussion
As I have already noted, this horrible tragedy occurred in yetanother gun-free zone. Don Kates notes: “it turns out that Century 16 Theaters no-gun policy also applies to its own security personnel, including the off-duty policy officer on the premises.”
On Fox News at 5:34 PM EDT, the Aurora police chief said that the killer had been receiving “a high volume of deliveries at work and home over the past four months”.
CBS notes that the attack erupted at 12:30 AM. Reuters has this timeline:

* Local police began receiving emergency calls at 12:39 a.m. Within a minute, hundreds of 911 calls had been placed. * Police arrived at the scene at 12:40 a.m. (0640 GMT) The suspect, Holmes, was taken into custody in the parking lot near the back door of the theater.

Police arrived very quickly once they called, but it appears that nine minutes elapsed between when the attack started and they were notified.

From a June 2010 piece entitled: Think Tough Gun Laws Keep Europeans Safe? Think Again…

It wasn’t supposed to happen in England, with all its very strict gun control laws. And yet last week Derrick Bird shot and killed 12 people and wounded 11 others. A headline in The Times of London read: “Toughest laws in the world could not stop Cumbria tragedy.” . . .

Take a simple example. Suppose your family is being stalked by a criminal who intends on harming them. Would you feel safer putting up a sign in front of your home with the message: “This Home is a Gun-Free Zone”? Probably not. The sign would only tell criminals that they would meet little resistance if they attacked. But in effect, we have put these signs on everything from schools to a couple of cities.

So why did the shooter drive miles out of his way, when six other much closer theaters showing the same film.  I doubt the ignorant Obama voter can figure that out …how about you???

Obama Signs Warrantless Wire Tap Bill, Signed Behind Closed Doors,– Obama Renews Bush’s FISA Law

December 31, 2012

Shhh. don’t want people to know.

When Bush Did this it was big news. When Obama does it, on New Years Eve, nothing … Why the secrecy now, why no media attention.

The dog who did not bark.

The AP writes:

President Barack Obama has signed into law a five-year extension of the U.S. government’s authority to monitor the overseas activity of suspected foreign spies and terrorists.

The warrantless intercept program would have expired at the end of 2012 without the president’s approval. The renewal bill won final passage in the Senate on Friday.

Known as the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, the law allows the government to monitor overseas phone calls and emails without obtaining a court order for each intercept.

The law does not apply to Americans. When Americans are targeted for surveillance, the government must get a warrant from a special 11-judge court of U.S. district judges appointed by the Supreme Court.

Hey if we think you can be a problem, we send over a drone to blow you up. Unless you are working for our government and then nothing …. shhhh!!!!

Just wait until Obama has his new NSA supper snoops onboard.

Gun Violence In America Declining Over Last 20 Years

December 31, 2012

When the victims are armed …. I wonder what could have caused this? Maybe the 7 Circuit Court of Appeals knew the Answer when the ordered Illinois to began issuing CCW permits? Yes that is the State our foreign President and his ilk call home.

Appeals court overturns Illinois concealed carry law(CCW) in gun rights victory

In a huge win for gun-rights groups, a divided federal appeals court in Chicago Tuesday tossed the state’s ban on carrying concealed weapons and gave Illinois’ Legislature 180 days to craft a law legalizing concealed carry.

“The debate is over. We won. And there will be a statewide carry law in 2013,” said Todd Vandermyde, a lobbyist for the National Rifle Association.

National Institute of Justiceand Bureau of Justice Statistics, both official government sites for crime-related data.  Both have information which should be considered in the rush to legislate after the horrific mass murder in Newtown.  The NIJ, using data from the BJS, charts the use of various weapons types in homicides over a 30-year period — and clearly, the use of guns had a peak, but it dissipated almost 20 years ago:

Homicides committed with firearms peaked in 1993 at 17,075, after which the figure steadily fell, leveling off in 1999 at 10,117. Gun-related homicides have increased slightly each year since 2002.

Other weapons include all the bad looking AW — Feinstein bad looking weapons. Some old lady’s pipe dream ….Who knows what that is???

Firearms play a significant role in homicides by circumstance, but the circumstances involved show that it’s rare for otherwise law-abiding citizens to be involved in a gun-related homicide.  More than 90% of all gang-related homicides involve gun use, for instance, while the rate of felony homicides involving guns have risen to nearly 80%.  The rate of firearm use in homicides from personal arguments has declined slightly over the last thirty years, even as gun sales have increased, showing that there is no causation or even correlation to support the idea that guns escalate arguments.

This chart, though, shows a dramatic change innonfatal firearm-related violent crime over the last 20 years — but in a surprising direction, given all the fury in the current debate:

Over the last 20 years, the firearm crime rate has dropped, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, from 6 victims per 1,000 residents in 1994 to 1.4 victims per 1,000 residents in 2009.  The 1.4/1000 is the same rate as in 2004, the last year in which the “assault weapons” ban was in place.  Part of this is from an overall decline in violent crime over the same period, but that doesn’t account for all of the improvement.  Firearm crimes accounted for 11% of all violent crime in 1993 and 1994, but was 8% of all such crime in 2009.

This decline took place in an era where gun sales increased and carry permit laws were liberalized.  It may assume too much to claim that that increased gun ownership and carrying caused the decline, but it’s clear that the correlation runs in that direction and not the opposite.  So what, other than the grief over the senseless massacre of children in Newtown, drives the current push for gun confiscation and control? Glenn Reynolds has a thought about that:

2. Is Hate A Liberal Value? A 20-year-old lunatic stole some guns and killed people. Who’s to blame? According to a lot of our supposedly rational and tolerant opinion leaders, it’s . . . the NRA, a civil-rights organization whose only crime was to oppose laws banning guns. (Ironically, it wasn’t even successful in Connecticut, which has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation.)

The hatred was intense. One Rhode Island professor issued a call — later deleted — for NRA head Wayne LaPierre’s “head on a stick.” People like author Joyce Carol Oates and actress Marg Helgenberger wished for NRA members to be shot. So did Texas Democratic Party official John Cobarruvias, who also called the NRA a “terrorist organization,” and Texas Republican congressman Louis Gohmert a “terror baby.”

Nor were reporters, who are supposed to be neutral, much better. As The Atlantic’sJeffrey Goldberg commented, “Reporters on my Twitter feed seem to hate the NRA more than anything else, ever. ”

Calling people murderers and wishing them to be shot sits oddly with claims to be against violence. The NRA — like the ACLU, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers or Planned Parenthood — exists to advocate policies its members want. It’s free speech. The group-hate directed at the NRA is ugly and says ugly things about those consumed by it.

This has unleashed a lot of ugliness, and most of it self-righteous and ignorant ugliness.  Before we set off to infringe on the rights of tens of millions of Americans in an effort to prevent the unpreventable and demonize those who oppose that push, perhaps we should take a look at the data to see if it supports the assumption that we’re in the middle of an ever-increasing bloodbath.  If not — and the data seems pretty clear about that — then perhaps the solution to preventing a few mentally/emotionally/spiritually twisted individuals from wreaking mass murder lies somewhere else than disarming everyone who abides by the law.

Is hate a liberal value, they seem to love it so much, they spew it everywhere.

Are the liberal’s gun free zones the real problem? Looks like it…
Columbine gun free school shooting happened during the first Feinstein AW Ban… So we conculde that worked well, so we need another. Liberals never stop anything, nor fix any thing. Isn’t it time we quit listening to them.?????
Ann Coulter writes:
In the wake of a monstrous crime like a madman’s mass murder of defenseless women and children at the Newtown, Conn., elementary school, the nation’s attention is riveted on what could have been done to prevent such a massacre.Luckily, some years ago, two famed economists, William Landes at the University of Chicago and John Lott at Yale, conducted a massive study of multiple victim public shootings in the United States between 1977 and 1995 to see how various legal changes affected their frequency and death toll. What Did You Expect From Liberals…

December 29, 2012

That’s gotta hurt….

NBC’s David Gregory criticized NRA’s proposal for armed guards in schools — and now it’s revealed that he sends his own kids to a school protected by armed guards.

Same is true of Rahm Emanuel.

Cake for thee, armed guards for my kids…

Gun Inventory Way Down

December 29, 2012

Ammunition Stock levels have fallen by more than 90% from the pre-Election Day levels. Less than 10% remains available.  What did you think Homeland Security buying over a billion rounds would do???

Stock levels — Handguns are down by 80%, Long Guns by 63% for an overall 72.2% reduction in firearms inventories.

AR pattern rifles are becoming particularly difficult to source. Shops that used to have many, now have virtually none.

Obama did not disappoint… First up gun control. Where fast and Furious do not do, a new un-Constitutional gun ban will now be tried.

I sure hope Boehner gives it the Harry Reid treatment to budget in the House. Bring it up in 2016, or never.

Gun Free Chicago : Chicago Police Confirm ‘Tragic Number’ Of 500 Homicides

December 29, 2012

Gun free Chicago Ordered by 7th Circuit Appeals Court, to issue carry permits to future victims, so they can shoot back. Why it took so many dead people, to trigger this response, only Rahm Emanuel must know.

Dancing around the sad truth:

Chicago reached “a tragic number” today, according to Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy: Its homicide total for the year hit 500, the highest annual total since 2008.

The city’s latest homicide occurred around 9 p.m. Thursday when Nathaniel T. Jackson, 40, an alleged gang member with a lengthy arrest record, was gunned down outside a store in the Austin neighborhood.

Really? New Paper Finds Climate Models Exaggerate Projected Warming

December 28, 2012

Maybe if all the computer models didn’t rely on the mythical hotspot …

A paper published today in Geophysical Research Letters finds climate models “suffer from temperature-dependent biases” which “leads to an overestimation of projections of regional temperatures.” According to the authors, “10-20% of projected warming is due to model deficiencies.” The paper adds to many other peer-reviewed papers demonstrating that climate models exaggerate global warming, regional warming, extreme weather, cyclones, extreme precipitation, wind storms, droughts, and floods.

Too bad for the warmist as anyone who ventures outside knows, it’s cold. What happened to the warm???

The law of averages has run out, the next ice age is coming.
