Who was the senator that gave the speech “The Crime against Kansas”?

Senator Charles Sumner of Massachusetts gave the speech “On the Crime Against Kansas” in the Senate in May 1856.

As I have written in the past, The Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 led straight to the Civil War. It disturbed the careful balance between “Free” and Slave states, and insured that America would become a slave country.

You did know the Civil War was fought about Slavery and not the idea of “States Rights”. Read the Articles of Confederation of the Southern States, if you need more information.
