“wanted to defend Islam from attack.” — By Who He Didn’t Say

It’s worth refershing our understanding of who poster boy Dzhokhar Tsarnaev really is, an Islamic nut case. …. Boston bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev told investigators his brother made him become a terrorist and that they acted alone. Dzhokhar said they “wanted to defend Islam from attack.” So they blew up the little kid and the others?

The Daily Mail reported:

The surviving Boston Marathon bombing suspect has told investigators that his brother orchestrated the attacks because he ‘wanted to defend Islam from attack’, it emerged today.

But in scrawled notes made from his hospital bed, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, told Guantanamo Bay interrogators that he and his brother were not linked to any Islamic terrorist groups.

According to CNN, Dzhokhar said his older brother, Tamerlan, 26, was the ringleader in the attacks that shook the nation a week ago, but that the pair were working alone.

In preliminary interviews with Dzhokhar, the terror suspect said his brother ‘wanted to defend Islam from attack’, a source told CNN.

Two U.S. officials said last night the evidence from the bedside interrogation suggests the terror suspects did not have any accomplices, despite previous fears they were part of a 12-man terror ‘sleeper cell.’

He could face a death sentence, despite the fact Massachusetts has no death penalty, as he is being prosecuted under the federal system.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Marianne Bowler described the 19-year-old as ‘alert, mentally competent and lucid,’ during a brief initial court appearance in his Boston hospital room. He communicated mostly by nodding his head but at one point answered ‘no,’ according to CNN. A probably cause hearing has been scheduled for May 30.

Investigators have been quizzing Tsarnaev about whether there were more bombs, explosives or weapons beyond the ones already uncovered by police as well as who came up with the plot.

Investigators in Boston are probing whether Tamerlan Tsarnaev is connected to a gruesome triple homicide in 2011 of a former roommate and two others.

Yahoo-ABC reported

In the wake of the revelations about the violent nature of accused marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev, investigators in the Boston suburbs tell ABC News they are probing whether he may have been involved in an unsolved grisly triple homicide of a former roommate and two others. The murders took place around the tenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

“We are looking at a possible connection with the suspect in the marathon atrocity and this active and open homicide in Waltham,” Stephanie Guyotte, a spokeswoman for the Middlesex County District Attorney, confirmed to ABC News.

Tsarnaev, the alleged bombing mastermind who died in a fierce gun battle with police early Friday morning, had been training with one of the 2011 murder victims in an attempt to transition from boxing into a possible career in the brutal sport of mixed-martial arts.

The victims were found in a Waltham, Massachusetts apartment. They had their throat slashed, their heads nearly decapitated. Their mutilated bodies were left covered with marijuana.

It was a gruesome scene – but also perplexing to law enforcement. While drugs appeared to factor into the motive, the murderer left both the marijuana and thousands of dollars in cash behind in the Waltham apartment. While the investigation has been active for more than a year, authorities acknowledged they have had few leads.

Two law enforcement sources told ABC News that may now change, with the bomb attack prompting a fresh look into Tsarnaev’s alleged penchant for violence…

…Tsarnaev had also been close to one of the murder victims, 25-year-old Brendan Mess, investigators told ABC. The two had been training together in a local gym –each helping the other with a missing element from their fighting arsenal. Tsarnaev, a golden-gloves heavy weight boxer, lacked martial arts training. And Mess, an experienced jiu jitsu competitor, lacked boxing experience.
