Apple’s October 22 event confirmed

Apple today sent out invitations for a news event to take place on October 22, confirming a previous report from AllThingsD that the presentation would take place on this date.

GameSpot sister site CNET notes that the event is expected to bring news of new iPads and Macs.

The invitation says, “We still have a lot to cover,” with leaves of various colors emerging from the Apple logo.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco, California beginning at 10 a.m. PDT. It is not clear if a live-stream will be offered.

It’s supposed to cover the iPad 5

Apple To Unveil Thinner iPad Model

August 14, 2013

The yearly event … It’s that time of the year … Christmas is coming …

Apple is preparing to introduce a new, thinner iPad, sources familiar with the plans say, as the company works to stay atop the increasingly crowded tablet-computer market.

Apple also plans to introduce a new iPad mini, the first with a high-resolution screen, said the sources, who asked not to be identified because the development is private.

The new iPad models are set to be introduced in the last three months of the year, one of the sources said.

After popularising the use of tablet computers that blend the functionality of a touchscreen smartphone and laptop, Apple is facing increasing competition from Google, Samsung and Asustek.

Apple’s share of the market slid to 32.4 per cent in the second quarter, from 60.3 per cent a year earlier, according to market research firm IDC.

Tablet shipments are slowing in anticipation of new models from the company, IDC said last week.

The planned new full-size iPad, with a 9.7-inch screen, will have a body that more closely resembles the current iPad mini, with a thinner bezel than the current version, said the sources. It will be the first redesign since March 2012, when Apple introduced a high-resolution iPad with the shape featured on models currently on sale. The iPad mini, with a 7.9-inch screen, doesn’t currently have the same high-resolution “Retina” display available with the iPhone and larger iPad.
