Maine Governor Calls Obamacare’s Army of IRS Agents the “New Gestapo”

July 8, 2012

That’s about right. Just what a free country needs, their very own Gestapo.

Main Governor Paul LePage accused the Obama Administration of organizing an army of “new Gestapo” agents to enforce the ObamaTax law. Hiring them now. With drones for backup. HEy what do you think the death panels were for?

Maine Governor Paul LePage called ObamaTAX’s army of IRS agents the “new Gestapo” today in his weekly radio address.

The Portland Press Herald reported, via Conservative Nation News

Gov. Paul LePage used his weekly radio address to blast President Obama’s health care law and described the Internal Revenue Service as the “new Gestapo.”

The IRS description was a reference to a provision in the Affordable Care Act that requires most Americans to buy health insurance or pay an annual penalty when filing their tax returns. The provision, known more broadly as the individual mandate, was the subject of a multi-state lawsuit, but was recently upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court.

LePage said the court decision has “made America less free.”

“We the people have been told there is no choice,”
he said. “You must buy health insurance or pay the new Gestapo – the I.R.S.”

The debate over the mandate has become a political flash point since the health law was enacted. Republicans maintain that the requirement is an unfair tax. Democrats say the mandate was originally a Republican idea borne from the conservative Heritage Foundation, which introduced the measure in 1989 as counterpoint to calls for a single-payer health care system.

The Gestapo were Nazi Germany’s official secret police under Adolph Hitler, who imprisoned and murdered thousands of people without cause.

LePage also addressed another element of the health-care law that was immediately thrust into the public debate: Medicaid expansion. Originally the Affordable Care Act required states to increase eligibility for low-income residents or pay a penalty. The court decision struck down the penalty, however, the federal government is still offering to pay for the expansion.

The federal government will fund 100 percent of the expansion from 2014 to 2016, gradually declining to 90 percent after that.

The Obama administration is building up the IRS by another 16,500 agents to enforce ObamaTAX. The drones are just backup, for now.
