NEW POLL SHOWS ENGLAND WANTS ITS GUNS BACK

May 31, 2013

The United Kingdom is often held up as a successful example of gun control by those on the left.  But a recent poll by the Daily Telegraph, one of England’s most widely-read publications, shows Britons themselves are far from sold on the laws.

In a poll asking readers what laws they would like to see introduced or changed, an overwhelming number of voters chose “repeal the ban on hand guns and re-open shooting clubs.”

“After all, why should only criminals be ‘allowed’ to possess guns and shoot unarmed, defenceless citizens and police officers?” reader Colliemum wrote.

Social Security Cash Flow Suddenly Negative

June 13, 2010

Remember when Bush tried to reform Social Security, and the donks jumped all over him for scare mongering? Well the scare mongerel is now at the door … One of the many features of Obammunism and his shutting down the US economy. We should be proud we have national health care rationing. And a federal government bankrupt and too big too fail.

Michale Barone reports:

Here’s something I didn’t know, from financial blogger Bruce Krasting (via John Ellis): Social Security tax receipts for the first half of 2010: $346.9 billion; Social Security benefits payments for the same period: $347.3 billion. Before this year, projections have always been that Social Security wouldn’t cross that line into negative cash flow for five years or so. Now it’s a reality. Congress has been spending Social Security’s positive cash flow for years. Now there’s no positive cash flow to spend.

To see how the negative trend has accelerated, consider the same figures for the first half of 2009: Social Security tax receipts were $366.0 billion and Social Security benefits payments were $334.3 billion. A positive cash flow of $31.7 billion has disappeared in the course of just 12 months. Scary.

U.S. and BP slow to accept Dutch expertise

June 11, 2010

Three days after the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico, the Dutch government offered to help.

It was willing to provide ships outfitted with oil-skimming booms, and it proposed a plan for building sand barriers to protect sensitive marshlands.

The response from the Obama administration and BP, which are coordinating the cleanup: “The embassy got a nice letter from the administration that said, ‘Thanks, but no thanks,’” said Geert Visser, consul general for the Netherlands in Houston.

Now, almost seven weeks later, as the oil spewing from the battered well spreads across the Gulf and soils pristine beaches and coastline, BP and our government have reconsidered.

U.S. ships are being outfitted this week with four pairs of the skimming booms airlifted from the Netherlands and should be deployed within days. Each pair can process 5 million gallons of water a day, removing 20,000 tons of oil and sludge.

At that rate, how much more oil could have been removed from the Gulf during the past month?

The uncoordinated response to an offer of assistance has become characteristic of this disaster’s response. Too often, BP and the government don’t seem to know what the other is doing, and the response has seemed too slow and too confused.

Federal law has also hampered the assistance. The Jones Act, the maritime law that requires all goods be carried in U.S. waters by U.S.-flagged ships, has prevented Dutch ships with spill-fighting equipment from entering U.S. coastal areas.

“What’s wrong with accepting outside help?” Visser asked. “If there’s a country that’s experienced with building dikes and managing water, it’s the Netherlands.”

Even if, three days after the rig exploded, it seemed as if the Dutch equipment and expertise wasn’t needed, wouldn’t it have been better to accept it, to err on the side of having too many resources available rather than not enough?

BP has been inundated with well-intentioned cleanup suggestions, but the Dutch offer was different. It came through official channels, from a government offering to share its demonstrated expertise.

Many in the U.S., including the president, have expressed frustration with the handling of the cleanup. In the Netherlands, the response would have been different, Visser said.

There, the government owns the cleanup equipment, including the skimmers now being deployed in the Gulf.

“If there’s a spill in the Netherlands, we give the oil companies 12 hours to react,” he said.

If the response is inadequate or the companies are unprepared, the government takes over and sends the companies the bill.

While the skimmers should soon be in use, the plan for building sand barriers remains more uncertain. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal supports the idea, and the Coast Guard has tentatively approved the pro-ject. One of the proposals being considered was developed by the Dutch marine contractor Van Oord and Deltares, a Dutch research institute that specializes in environmental issues in deltas, coastal areas and rivers. They have a strategy to begin building 60-mile-long sand dikes within three weeks.

That proposal, like the offer for skimmers, was rebuffed but later accepted by the government. BP has begun paying about $360 million to cover the costs. Once again, though, the Jones Act may be getting in the way. American dredging companies, which lack the dike-building expertise of the Dutch, want to do the work themselves, Visser said.

“We don’t want to take over, but we have the equipment,” he said.

While he battles the bureaucracy, the people of Louisiana suffer, their livelihoods in jeopardy from the onslaught of oil.

“Let’s forget about politics; let’s get it done,” Visser said.

This fellow is just downright alien.

How To Recognize — EPIC FAIL ?

June 7, 2010

Caracas stocks reached a record 52 week high on essentially very little volume, as financial stocks rose, but the absence of most brokers after the largest and most important were taken over by the government has ground activity to a halt, making specific changes in prices essentially irrelevant.

Volume was so low that just a few thousand dollars were traded all week for any local issue.

Three stocks moved up: Banco Provincial, Sivensa and Mercantil Servicios Financieros.

The Caracas Stock Index closed at 63,281, up 14.90% for the year, but down -42.55% in US dollar terms after a January devaluation.

Any similarity to Obammunsim is purely accidental.

Obamacare’s Cooked Books and the ‘Doc Fix’

May 26, 2010

Oabama-Speak, the fusion of sophistry and Newspeak. Some see it as a gift, others recognize it for what it is, just lies. When will the government lies cease.

Everybody knew Obamacare was nothing more than a gigantic lie from the start. The quality of care would sink, rationing would be result, and the lines would just grow and grow — And costs would be through the roof. But now as the hard evidence on just how big a fraud the whole was, it is becoming breathtaking in the scope of the lies.

It’s going to be tough to live with Obamacare, that’s why it takes so long before disaster strikes. That way the jug eared liar has left the scene. Repeal is the only solution.

What He Really Meant

May 16, 2010

I bet this is not what you thought he meant:

People close to him knew exactly what he meant, and what he intended to do, and were ecstatic at the opportunity to vote for him.  The vast majority of the black community who voted for him had no idea what he meant, but voted for him anyway because he was black.  Southern Democrats had no idea what he meant, but voted for him anyway because he was not a Republican.  Independents thought he meant that he would “change” the process in Washington and offer some “hope” for political integrity.

What he meant is now painfully clear: Obama is on a mission to transform the government of the United States of America into a government based on Marxist principles, acting to achieve Marxist objectives, using the Marxist tactic: whatever it takes.

The fundamental change Obama promised is this: a change from America’s historic Constitutional Republic form of government, to a new, modernized Marxism delivered in little bites with nifty new sound-good names:  health-care reform; card-check; smart growth; cap-and-trade; comprehensive planning; and a laundry list of additional schemes, plans, and programs, all designed to tighten the government noose around the neck of every citizen.

Court-Packing, Chicago-Style

May 8, 2010

A review of how FDR tried to game the court to get his unconstitutional agenda accepted as Constitutional.

President Obama, Senator Reid, and Speaker Pelosi showed their ability to ruthlessly ram through their legislative agenda with a combination of procedural tricks, sleight-of-hand, and painful arm-twisting, all of which could happen again. They also hope to have a Supreme Court which will rubber-stamp their legislative agenda and thus guarantee its long-term survival. If one agrees with Santayana’s “those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,” then it is instructive to examine the way that President Franklin Delano Roosevelt viciously attacked and tried to control the Supreme Court in order to secure his New Deal agenda.

For instance — As we watch with horror the way the FCC just assumes it can control the Internet, even though a judge had said it may not, by rearraging a few words, then this is exaclty what FDR was trying to do — Congress just punts it’s resonsibilites to the executive branch, which in and of itself is an unconstitutional act — due to the Constitution’s separation of powers clause.

Greece: First To Prove Thatcher’s Saying

May 6, 2010

Margaret Thatcher, in a television interview for Thames TV This Week on February 5, 1976. Prime Minister Thatcher said, “…and Socialist governments traditionally do make a financial mess. They [socialists] always run out of other people’s money. It’s quite a characteristic of them.”

It has been popularly paraphrased in various forms:

  • “The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money [to spend].”
  • “The trouble with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.”
  • “Eventually, socialists run out of other peoples’ money [to spend].”

Obama-Regime: New U.S. Push to Regulate Internet Access

May 6, 2010

This comes right after the Supreme Court struck down the FCC’s attempt to just assume the power, now they say the Internet is a utility? Like phone, electric power, and water.

It’s all about control of freedom of speech.

Like all tyrants the Obama regime uses “opposite language” to get the ignorant to do what they want. The high school and college kiddies will relish the “net neutrality” as saying it’s freedom of speech.

Think the movie 1984 and their fictional Newspeak, where the meaning of words is turned upside down. Newspeak the term was also used to discuss Soviet phraseology. I wonder why?

But in fact it’s all about controlling freedom of speech, which is precisely what the Supreme Court said in their ruling denying the FCC the power. The Internet is protected free speech, and political speech is the most protected of all.

Here is the WSJ article on the subject.

“You could have regulators involved in every facet of providing Internet over time. How wholesale and prices are set, how networks are interconnected and requirements that they lease out portions of their network,” he said.

And I add, which websites are visible — Obammunism does not fair well when free speech is allowed. You notice everything the regime say is mostly lies? Well with this, they will be able to shutdown offending websites, by simply cutting the off — Like the Chinese Communist do.

The lessons of Newspeak should be learned. If you haven’t seen the movie, you should, ASAP.
